This guide is for xbox 360 consoles.

You can get a bigger ide(pata) hard drive for the original xbox. I don't know about that process.
Usually there is a page that comes up and asks to type in a captcha.

just a quick question...

I have a phat xbox 360 20gig

If I follow this tutorial and upgrade to a 250gig will i still be able to play on xbox live?

Thanks to all involved! This process works flawlessly, once I used an old P4 machine I had kicking around hddhackr worked smoothly (on my new machine it gave me the sector 16 issue).
Then I checked the drive in the Xbox 360 and formatted it.
Then I used Hoffman’s partition2 and Xplorer 360 Extreme 2 (somehow I first downloaded just explorer 360 for the 320 GB, it gave me the unable to find partition error. Must read thoroughly… :) )
Xplorer 360 Extreme 2 did give my antivirus a scare, but like every one said it scans clean if you manually scan it. I just had to make an exception in my blocked programs for it. Then it was simple. I just restored partition2.
Now all my old Xbox games work too.
Excellent tutorial! This saved me some money. It’s nice to get something for the Xbox that isn’t outrageously overpriced. :)
 
Improved Drive Specks

Hello,

Just to be clear, improved cache (such as 16 Mb), and a spin of 7200 makes no difference because of the XBox Slims existing interface is this correct? The 5400 would do the job just fine because of the limits of the existing hardware, yes? I understand using the WD Blue drive model listed in the tutorial (because of the firmware flashing) and the drive capacity needing to match the actual Microsoft release size limitations. The WD Blues I am looking at have a small price difference for the better cache and spin speed, but if what you said in the tutorial is firm because of Slim/XBox 360 hardware configurations/limitations, then why spend the extra cash (like you said) right? :) I appreciate your tutorial, nice work.

Ive done everything i think i should be doing but its telling me that the hddss.bin is not present please someone help i have a xbox 360 slim new and a new wd 250 gb hd wd2500bevs please help and thanks :(

Rename your 250 bin file to hddss.bin
 
I thought I saw this listed in this thread but now I can't find it. I know a 250gb drive will format on the xbox to 228gb free. How much free space should a 120gb have after formatting? I upgraded to a 250gb and want to sell my 120gb. It formatted to 107gb free. Is that correct? I want to make sure it formatted correctly before I sell it.

I looked it up on yahoo and it says 107 is correct so I guess it's right.
 
hi, evybody, i'm stuck: my WD Scorpio Blue 250 gb is not recognized by my PC, neither by the BIOS, nor by windows. if i put it in the xbox, the console won't start and i get 1 red led.
i have set the BIOS disabling the AHCI parameter, but there's just no way the HDD is seen:
if i boot by usb device and launch hddhackr i get "no drives detected"
i really don't know what to do.
anyone can help?
 
I am interested in playing some older Xbox games but my 2 year old 360 slim gives a disk read error when any older disks are installed. The slim is a 4GB system that I added a 250GB hard drive purchased on eBay. From what I read, I assume the issue is the hard drive lacking a partition even though it was shipped in Xbox packing material. I have 2 years worth of game saves, user profiles, and downloads that I do not want to lose and I would guess would happen without caution. I am looking for any advice and instruction to ensure that I do not lose everything that is already on the drive. If there is a previous post with step by step instructions, please direct me to that, otherwise I would love your suggestions. Thanks!

Its a failed hard drive, get a replacement.

I have bought a drive like this before,I connected it and only heard a clicking noise with no access to the drive. The only thing you can do is get a replacement hard drive.
 
I also had this problem, here's what I did to fix it.

When you hit F to flash, it will say HDDSS.BIN is not present, then show C:\

Type the following so it looks the same as below:
C:\dir/w

Now you should see the directory.
My HDDSS.BIN file had changed to HDDSSB~1.BIN

Type the following so it looks the same as below to change it back:
C:\ren HDDSSB~1.BIN HDDSS.BIN

Now start over and hopefully this will work for you.

If in your directory, the HDDSS filename differs slighty to mine, just type what you have instead e.g HDDSS~BIN
 
I purchased a 320 GB WD drive model number WD32000BEKT and got to the following series of messages:

Warning: LBA size seems to be an unsupported XBOX360 value.
Please contact the authors!

(Is there a later version of HddHackr beyond v1.30 Build 20100303 that the guide said to use? Is that's what's causing the previous messages?)

Information in file HDDSS.BIN does not match the drive's firmware info
Do you want to flash XBOX360 compatible firmware (Y/N)
(I expected to get these messages as the guide indicated)

to which I responded Y

then I got these messages:

Sectors16-22 rewritten successfully

I did NOT get a message asking if I wanted to create partition 0/2/3

I then got the following messages:

Now turn off your computer! (Do not restart)
Disconnect the HDD and test it in the XBox360 console.
All should work fine.

These messages I would think are normal except the part about trying it in the XBOX360. At this point I wouldn't think that there is anything to try. Perhaps this is a standard message at the successful completion both before and after you have restored what was on the old HDD.

I'm guessing/hoping that either everything is still okay even though I did NOT get a message asking if I wanted to create partition 0/2/3 or a later version of HddHackr is required for a 320 GB drive. IF a later version is required can anyone provide a working link to the updated version?

Any help would be appreciated.
