Using an Xbox Live profile on a Jtagged / RGH hacked Xbox 360 and staying safe

I have quite a few profiles i use in my RGH, including downloading friends accounts to help em out. With friends accounts i have only signed in after loading games with Aurora, FSD, xex menu and none have reported being banned. Also with all of my accounts i have done the exact opposite and sometimes i sign in when i boot up and launch games with the above mentioned and sometimes i would sign in after loading games. Maybe just luck, but i have never had an account banned. One thing i did stop doing tho is being signed in when going to xex menu for any reason. A few modders i know only use xex menu for games and said they were banned a few times as they were always signed in going there, after that none have mentioned being banned after they stopped signing in then going to xex menu. Hi, in my case I have a modded xbox 360 slim edition, so it is RGH. Now, I have a completly offline, never been on xbox live, account created on the console where i game and so on. I want to create an xbox live account with the gamescore and saves from the rgh account and then use it in a legit way. So the transfer would be a one time thing, done on a full legit xbox 360 where no mods or rgh is done. After the transfer, the profile would be used in a lawful way.
Only used xex menu at the beginning when I bought the console to update and set some things. As for the dashboard, firstly was freestyle then aurora.
It is safe or bans could occour (I know it is still ms decision).

From what you have said you have used homebrew apps with that profile signed in, so it would not be wise to convert that offline profile in to an Xbox Live profile in my opinion.
 
Xbox 360 Bad Update / Softmod Update in 2025:

Since I originally posted this research 15 years ago it has recently become possible to temporarily "softmod" an Xbox 360 with the Bad Update exploit. This is a software only exploit you could run on any Xbox 360, allowing that console to run unsigned code the same as a Jtag / RGH console until the 360 is next powered off.

Essentially all the research above is still relevant, how you are exploiting the Xbox 360 makes no difference, it is what you do with your profile signed in on a hacked Xbox 360 which matters.

More than anything I would emphasise to Bad Update users stay offline and do not connect to Xbox Live with any profile you care about while you are exploiting the console.

Some advice for obtaining content that is no longer available:

If you are using a Jtag / RGH / Bad Update exploited Xbox 360 to play games / content you can no longer purchase, then ensure you are using 100% untouched content and only play this content when you are offline.

If its XBLA game or DLC you should unlock the content yourself with Yaris Swap for example. A lot of beta / pre release XBLA content was around on the internet back in the day, so its hard to be sure of the origins of content you find online unless it is retail signed and not unlocked. That way you can be sure its 100% untouched. Essentially if its 100% untouched the content will not show up as corrupt on a stock, non modified Xbox 360.

If its a retail game you can use properly dumped ISO's for consoles with flashed DVD drives and convert these to a GoD (Games on Demand) yourself with ISO2GoD and then load them from the Microsoft Dashboard.

Don't load any sort of homebrew with your Xbox Live profile signed in, offline or online.

To Conclude:

Use common sense and don't go on Xbox Live with a Bad Update exploited console. Power the console off so it returns to its stock state before going on Xbox Live again. Like with Jtag / RGH users using stealth servers, its not worth the risk in my opinion if you care about your profile and have lots of digital purchases associated with it.

If you can afford to do so have a totally separate Xbox 360 for hacks / homebrew related things, transfer your profile between theses consoles using a USB memory stick if you wish to earn achievements on the exploited / hacked Xbox 360.

I know you guys have been talking about DLC and safety, but i want to explain my situation here, too, if you don't mind. So, I downloaded the DLC for the video game The Godfather since they are impossible to obtain legally nowadays. I was thinking of playing it on my RGH console with my main Xbox Live account and earning the achievements. Once earned, I’d like to sync them online on my retail console via USB. It is risky?

Also, there’s something a bit strange: when I put the DLC on my RGH, the game’s icon image — the one that appears in Storage — becomes distorted and looks cropped. It’s like some kind of glitch. The DLC itself, however, works perfectly (checked with another profile).
 
You can play offline on a RGH and sync to Xbox Live on an unmodified 360 perfectly fine.

The main risk is potentially using beta versions of the DLC which have leaked from PartnerNet back in the day (the developer versions of Xbox Live) - this DLC could have achievements not in the final game for example. I believe this did happen for one of the Need for Speed games, however it was more beta versions of XBLA games that tended to leak.

I guess the issue today is its impossible to know if the DLC is 100% untouched unless you unlock it yourself. Most DLC is probably ok to use as you need a title update to enable it, I could never guarantee you are 100% safe however unless you trust where the DLC came from. I'm certainly more on the not worth the risk side of the coin though, not wanting to get a 20+ year old Xbox profile banned.

Thanks for replying. I didn’t know Microsoft could detect whether a DLC is the original or unmodified version. I understand it would be more blatant if achievements that don’t exist in the official version were unlocked. Regarding that last point, would there be any way to check it? For example, by making a copy of my profile, complete the game with the DLC, and seeing whether there are any strange achievements that shouldn’t be there.
 
You could start the game on an offline profile and compare the achievements to what is listed on https://www.xboxachievements.com/
Most achievements are generally not hidden, so it should be easy enough to get a good idea from what you can see before unlocking them.
 
Hello everyone,
I‘m writing again just to ask if someone has ever tested out if FSD or Aurora (the most recent Versions with the plugins that show you the temperatures etc. and alter the quicklaunch menu when you press the Xbox-button) do any changes to your profile (even if you log into your account after launching a game)?
I have only used Xexmenu in the last few years to load games and earn achievements which worked just fine.
However, I will have to use FSD or Aurora in the future to install a title update required for a specific DLC and I was wondering if using those launchers/dashboards was just as safe as using Xexmenu (starting the game + title update via FSD/Aurora —> logging into your profile —> playing —> logging off/shutting down —> syncing achievements on retail console).
I have found some reports that imply it is safe but these only vaguely explain the way FSD/Aurora was used.
