Easily update your Jtagged Xbox 360 to Kernel / Dashboard 12611 with FbBuild 0.11

Both rajkosto and InsaneNutter are correct.
I think the problem is that most people don't know how their xbox 360 was jtagged. I used a variation of the aud_clamp technique ( the one that I had to solder one of the bat4 switching diode to the dvd power supply) and if I follow InsaneNutter's tutorial and used my original nand files, it won't work. However, if I use the nand I'm upgrading from, it will work.

For my two cents, I think it's best if those upgrading get a backup of the current jtagged nand via boot360 and use that for the upgrade. So far doing that way seems to have the highest rate of success...

It's worked. I flashed the old xbr and the box started normaly.
And i found and another way to update in my language and now work new dash version.

first of all thanks for the great tutorial. Worked everything here. But I have 2 questions:

1. Will Xell/Xellous be available after the flash with this method? I can't test it right now since I only have a HDMI cable here.

2. Will applying the official Microsoft $SystemUpdate.2.0.12611.0 be safe, to get Avatars etc? Just wanna make sure I don't ruin my jtag

Yes to both questions, Xell/Xellous will be how it was and it is safe to restore the avatars from the MS 12611 update, that's exactly what I did.

InsaneNutter's right. I followed his tutorial as well and applied the system updates for the avatar AFTER updating to the latest dash. It's also safe if you still haven't bridged/remove your resistors though it's highly recommemded that you do it...

I did this tutorial, worked perfectly. Games all ran fine yesterday. Got home from work, booted up my console..tried to run a game off my USB (as I always do) and I now get a "disc is unreadable" message no matter what I run (off USB HDD or off a disc)

Any clue why? I tried reflashing but it still doesn't work..?

Edit:
Well I had reflashed about 3 times..and each time I started by running either Fable 3 or Splatterhouse..when I run those games..I get disc unreadable from then on..this time I reflashed and ran older games..works fine..

So can these newer ap25 games not run or am I missing something?

I figured it out, I had Fable 3 burned game in my drive..which when in..nothing works. It apparently is doing a disc check even when running games off interal HDD. Not sure if its specifically fable 3 or any burned game?

So can you not run burned games with new kinect dash?

Thats me, no clue what was done. Had my box jtagged about a week ago and got it with 12611 installed. Now trying to figure out what was done, if he did it right, what I need to fix (ie media update) and generally how to use jtag box safely and what it can do.

Did the modder give you a backup copy of the original nand before it was jtagged? You don't need it now but you might definitely need it in the future. Also, try and make sure you make a backup copy of the nand that you have on it now (the 12611 dash). I always make a backup copy of the nands that had existed on my jtag xbox, i.e. 7371 dash, then 9199 dash and 12611 (just in case) and I can go back and forth on each dash...

Problem with chistmas lights.

This has plagued me for 3 weeks now. I've done all the tuts and used ever program to do it but i always get christmas lights. I have a good clean working fb9199 nand that works like a charm but every other nand made to go to 12611 christmas lights. If i dump my correct nand with flash360 and use it to get the KV and Config i get the lights. I use my old original nand i dumped a year ago i get lights. I tried this program KV modder and every single KV i put through it says NO!! Christmas Light even the one i can flash back and works. What is going on here? By the way i use 360 Flash Tool v0.97 to get kv, sam and config using the option to ibuild compatible files. Everything looks good in 360 flash tool. Any help is appreciated.

He has the original nand, i hope, said he did and will try to get it. I dumped existing using xellous 1.0 started with the eject button and get a 16mb nand. Dump nand with flash360.xex and get a 12.6mb nand no matter how many times I try it. Dont know why not getting full dump from flash360 and not finding anyone else reporting this.

Will ask the modder next week about it. I know he did not remove the resistor and gave me some explanation as to why didnt. Said to make sure never use an MS update and should be fine. He didnt follow this tut thats for sure. I have no avatars and cant get them unless use the MS update, which am nervous about doing. Also media update not installed (could have been done before jtagged, was a virgin June 2009 box) and hack doesnt work for video library, which apparently is common with jtags and this 12611 update.

Am i not right you have to swap kv from an old nand to the new built 12611 nand? You link has nothing to say about anything i think you may have got the wrong link. All the programs ( FbBuild, easy freeboot, freeboot toolbox) swap your old kv to the new built nand.

Thanks for the reply but i have tried the original nand and all the previous nands i have that work. I never used a doner it's the original nand and kv. I forgot to say that i got it working with 12611 1 time but the DVD key was corrupt so i dumped it and fixed the dvd key but christmas lights after writing it back. I just used xbox360.xex to flash and keep kv and config but don't work now. I never got close after and since i lost the one that worked on 12611 i have nothing to compare to see what fbbuild and other programs are screwing up on.

I have a falcon box that i bought with the jtag. The NAND backup of the currently working XBR NAND is identified as jasper by the toolbox aswell as the flash dump tool. I do not know why. When using this backup to create a falcon 12611 NAND i get no errors but after flashing i have the xmas lights. when i use the backup of the retail falcon NAND the toolbox says that the backup has corrupt blocks. fbBuild complains too: "cannot verify smc.bin! If you know this SMC is hacked then disregard this message. Use -v for additional info."

I can always flash back to the strange jasper NAND backup via XELL, which works flawlessly, but no kinect support

Any Advice?

Dash 2.07 is out and fixed my problem w media extender. Might have broken something else, but media extender now works for me.

Yeah i think it's dumb to connect to live with Jtag It is a hugh target and always get a ban from what i hear.

oh god, thank you so much for this tutorial... I spent literally hours last night dicking around with freeboot maker and jtag tool and whatever other tool I came across and all kept giving me random errors.

I followed your tutorial and I was up and running in literally minutes. Next time you're in the southern california area I'll buy you a beer!

oh and just a FYI to any reading this post I have a jtag-zephyr that had 9199 on it. I kept getting errors like 'could not find sysupdate.xexp1' or something like that when I ran the other tools.

Yeah easy freeboot gives me that error on windows xp and 7 when it got to ibuild. I think it is a very common problem the script calling it has. If you run ibuild manually it works great.

I just did what was told in the tutorial using original nand backup execpt at the very end I didn't:

-Unplug the power brick and leave it disconnected for two minutes.
-Re connect the power brick, power the console on and if everything has gone ok your console should boot in to the 12611 Dash.

I just shutdown my console and pressed it back on. Everything seemed to be fine and working. Then I unpluged the console and moved it back to living room but now it doesn't work. Just black screen no error code and the controller wont sync (controller just keeps flashing green ring).

EDIT: All is fine now. I had to flash back twice with NandPro the backup I took before trying to flash 12611 update. After that I remade the 12611 update using the backupdumb and now everything is working.
